From Reaction to Prevention
Lightning forms when the electric field between cloud and ground crosses a critical threshold. Euthalia’s system—using Air Heads, filters, and field stabilizers—continuously conditions the local electromagnetic environment to keep the field below that threshold in the protected volume. Result: a dramatic drop in the probability of a lightning leader forming nearby.
Traditional vs Euthalia:
Aspect | Traditional Rods/Downconductors | Euthalia Preventive System |
---|---|---|
Core idea | Provide a low-impedance path after a strike | Stabilize and lower local field to avoid strike initiation |
Impact on assets | Strike still occurs; energy & surges to manage | Greatly reduces strike formation in vicinity |
Uptime | Needs robust SPD & bonding to manage surges | Fewer surge events → higher uptime |
Coverage | Point protection; relies on geometry | Volumetric protected area (engineered per site) |
Lifecycle | Periodic inspection/earthing checks | Engineered system + monitoring, AMC |
Standards note (short, factual):
Design and risk assessment follow IEC/EN 62305 lightning protection principles for site assessment, external/internal LPS and surge coordination. Euthalia’s approach complements the standard’s risk-based methodology while introducing a preventive field-stabilization layer. ABB Library
